Description

ive been listening to pantera lately... a lot lately... so i wanted to make a piece of some sort, based on the title of their song 'hellbound'. at first, i made a fractal... it didnt fit as well as i wanted it to, so i went the route of space art, and made it fiery. :XD:

ps cs3, apo for the nebula and solar flares, my suns from [link] and [link] mashed together (hooray for laziness ;P ), and around 8-10 hours

This piece simply caught my eye because of how strong it is! The plasmic pure white really shows the intensity of the sun flares and atomic explosions going on (especially since you used a nicely strong texture which feels really rough) which has been done nicely.

When it comes to vision, I believe it looks great but there are a couple of things that to the untrained eye is hard to notice; one of them being the nebula. The nebula is great, but if you were this close to a sun, its flares of radiation would overtake the light coming from the distant nebula.

The sun itself is quite well rendered because it truly feels 3D while being powerful with lots of explosions going on such as in real life. It's only when one looks at the background that (though it is well done) it becomes less believable. If you have done this on purpose, then it is a nice "magical universe" feel that was successfully incorporated.

What I believe you could do is introduce a couple more colors in order to contrast the heat even more. For example in the distance you could add a more "cool" nebula which feels more cold and thus enhances the strength of the heat of the sun. There is also a rule of thumb in space art which is that the human eye likes to see things in odd numbers. So in this case you have an even number (1 planet and 1 star) which throws it off from the usual space art and feels a bit "empty" even though it's not.

All in all, despite all my critiques, I still really enjoy this piece, especially for the sun itself in how you were able to make it powerful and 3D. Suns can be hard to create because you need to find the right textures to blend and brighten them so much without losing too much detail, which, here you have clearly done an amazing job at!
